November 11 - Remembrance Day
A Prayer for Peace
O God, it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let the design of your great love shine on the waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to your Church, peace among
nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Bishop's Letter
November 9, 2022
Dear People of God of the Diocese of Kootenay,
Greetings in the name of Christ as we enter the last few weeks of the
Church year, and head into winter!
We have been saddened by the sudden death of the Rev. George Pell.
Please continue to pray for his wife Catherine and for the Rev. Austin
Spry and the people of Holy Trinity Grand Forks, who are gathering for
prayer at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon. May God surround them all with
strength, comfort and courage in this time.
Today I am heading to the Council of General Synod, a twice-yearly
meeting. We continue to prepare for General Synod next summer in
Calgary. I am giving reports about Lambeth and about the proposed
changes in ordination rites. Also at COGS, we have as our guest this
week Mandy Marshall, the Gender Justice staff person for the Anglican
Communion, as we continue to work on building a safer church with
better policies that are informed by all we are learning about
responding to people who have been traumatized. Several people in
the Diocese have taken online workshops from Mandy.
I was delighted last week to lead one of the workshops for many of the
Licensed Lay Ministers in the Diocese. We looked at the ethos of
Anglicanism, what we value about our Anglican Heritage. We had
exciting and appreciative small group conversations.
I look forward to leading a Q and A workshop on November 17th
for any of you in the Diocese who want to hear more about the Lambeth Conference.
Please refer to the details further in the newsletter to obtain the zoom link. Bring your questions!
May God bless you as you find ways in your ordinary days to bring the
love of Christ to all the people you meet.
Yours in Christ,
+Lynne
