Bishop's Letter

Dear People of Kootenay,
As you know, Bishop Lynne attended the 15th Lambeth Conference in Canterbury, England from July 26th– August 8th and has stayed on for a few additional weeks of vacation with her husband Gerald. If you missed her Lambeth updates, you can find them under the news section of our website. Below is the closing service of Lambeth with Primate Linda Nicholls serving as concelebrant.
Bishop Lynne will return to a busy fall schedule that will include gatherings of the Provincial House of Bishops (September 21-23) followed by the Provincial Council (September 23-24) at Sorrento Centre; Diocesan Annual Meeting (October 1), travel to the East Kootenay region (October 4-6), the annual Clergy Conference (October 17-20), and the National House of Bishops (October 24-28).
We pray the summer season has been a time of refreshment and revitalization for you and we look forward to what the next season will bring.

"Annual Meeting of the Delegates of Synod" - October 1, 2022
-Changes to Note-
We are doing something new this year! Sometimes, when we do new things, we discover adjustments that need to be made. This is one of those times.
The synod delegates from last year’s synod will be gathering on October 1 for an Annual Meeting of the Delegates of Synod.
Consultation with the diocesan Chancellor has brought us to the following realizations:
- We cannot call this gathering a “synod.” Our canons are written with the understanding and assumption of a triennial session. That is, synod (the triennial session) occurs only every three years.
- The business of synod, the body, is carried out between triennial sessions by Diocesan Council.
- The delegates of the triennial session are free to meet between triennial sessions.
- Therefore, our gathering in October is an annual meeting of the delegates of the triennial session. This meeting is NOT a synod.
- This annual meeting may make recommendations to Diocesan Council.
In order to be clear about our October gathering, we will no longer refer to it as a “synod.” Instead, we will call it the Annual Meeting of the Delegates of Synod, or Annual Meeting for short.

Baptism at St.Stephen's Summerland
Riley Hanon was recently baptized by Rev. Guna Vaddadi of St. Stephen's Summerland. Riley wanted to share the video and a few photos of his special day with the Diocese. Congratulations Riley! Riley will be a youth delegate at the October 1st Annual Meeting and we are thrilled to have him join us.

2022 Season of Creation Resources
The season starts 1 September, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.

Facebook Night Prayer
With the exception of Monday evenings, night prayer will be on hold for the summer from July 23-September 4, 2022. Thank you to Linda Lagroix & Cindy Corrigan who will continue to lead prayer on Mondays throughout the summer.
Diaconal Studies 101
The Kootenay School of Ministry is very pleased to invite candidates to enrol in our introductory course on the diaconate, to be taught by the Ven. Richard Leggett, Ph.D. Candidates from other Dioceses are also welcome to register. The course will be offered on Zoom over four weekends, Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. These hours are Pacific Time:

As you plan your Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, consider taking a course of interest that is designed to equip you for any number of lay and ordained ministries. We are all in this together and now we can learn together! Local Ministry Schools in several western and northern Canadian dioceses are working collaboratively to give you these valuable in- person and online study opportunities. Emmanuel and St. Chad College oversees and grants the Licentiate in Theology to students registered through their local Diocese. To register for a specific course, contact the ministry school coordinator listed for that course.
